Email Practices & Compliance

AssemblyNote sends school-related newsletters and updates on behalf of verified K–12 school administrators. All emails are educational and informational in nature, such as class updates, school announcements, and teacher-created content. AssemblyNote does not send promotional or commercial email.

All recipient email addresses are provided directly by schools or school administrators. These addresses come from official class rosters or student information systems. AssemblyNote does not purchase, rent, or scrape email lists.

Parents and guardians receive school communications as part of the standard school–home communication process. Only recipients on a school's own roster receive emails through AssemblyNote, and every message is sent by a school that recipient's family is enrolled with.

AssemblyNote does not maintain its own mailing list. Every recipient comes from the sending school's own roster, so opting out is handled by the school rather than by us: a family who no longer wishes to receive a school's newsletters should contact the school directly. A school administrator can remove a student, or correct a parent or guardian's contact details, in AssemblyNote at any time, and the change takes effect on the next send.

We route it this way deliberately. School newsletters are part of the school–home communication a family is enrolled in, not marketing they subscribed to, and a guardian silently disappearing from official school communication without the school knowing is a worse outcome than one phone call to the office.

Every newsletter carries a standard List-Unsubscribe header addressed to the sending school, so a family's mail app can offer to write to the school for them. It reaches the school, not us, for the reason above — the school holds the roster and is the only party who can act on the request.

We record a delivery failure or a spam complaint against every message it happens to. Bounce results are reported back to the sending school alongside its delivery totals, so a school can see when an address on its roster has stopped working and correct it.

AssemblyNote prohibits the use of third-party lists, purchased lists, bulk marketing lists, or unsolicited email of any kind. All messages must originate from verified school organizations and adhere to education communication standards.
